About the farmer…
A long driveway hugs the gentle slopes of the Sundial Poultry, leading up a hill to a seasoned, dignified brick house with roomy, inviting white porches and four stately chimneys. Named for an old sundial on the property, the farm, owned for generations by the Showalter family, backs up to Cooks Creek in beautiful Mt. Crawford, Virginia.
Farmer Kenneth Showalter tends to the chickens each day, while Ethel manages the finances. Their son Sherman and his wife Julia handle the dairy side of things, and when the long day of bailing hay and caring for animals is done, and the sun gets low in the sky, the family loves to cuddle their two future farmers, twin baby boys.
